anna kreative ideen zum selbermachen
hi, this is diy eule with a new video. this time the topic is patchwork. i bought this magazine, it is called „patchwork + quilting“ from the publisher simply kreativ. as an extra they gave a pink measuring tape which is super cute. it came in a little metal box. i particularly liked this patchwork piece. and what i di from this magazine was this cushion. and it looks like this! i really like it a lot – especially the way these circles form and the structure of it. it was really complicated and took a lot of time. so if you are absolute sewing beginners i would not recommend this project. i have been sewing for a year now and i think i did a good job.
i added a very simple envelope closure. so, what you need is a lot of this basic fabric, which is this white cotton with my project. you will need around 1 m if the fabric is 1,5 m in width. luckily, i had a lot left of this white cotton. now it is almost all gone. you can already cut this fabric into 16 squares of 25,5 x 25,5 cm each. further, you will also need 24 small colorful fabric pieces. you can already cut these into 24 squares with 7,6 x 7,6 cm each. which is smaller than a chram pack. i cut mine myself because i already used the fabrics for another patchwork blanket. you will also need yarn in matching colors. in this case i used pink, blue and white yarn.
you will need a lot of the white yarn. depending on the closure you want to do, you might need additional material. i did not need anything further for the envelope closure. and of course you will need a pillow as filling. it will be around 45 x 45 cm or even a bit smaller. you will also need a lot of time and endurance – it took me several evenings to finish this project. ... and you might need plasters. i offtentimes pulled the pins into my fingers while sewing. this did not hurt too much, but blood and white fabric are not best friends. so now we start ironing the 16 squares of our basic fabric. this might take a while. i now took one square (25,5 x 25,5 cm) at a time.
i am folding back the edges for a little less than 1 cm and ironing them. i am doing this with all four edges. and the last edge… next, i will fold the square int he middle and iron it. fold it again in the middle and iron again. unfold it again and now fold the corners towards the middle. you might now this from origami crafting. repeat this for all 4 corners. fold these corner again towards the middle and iron
now i am done with the first folded square. i will repeat this with all 16 big squares. now i folded all squares and pinned some of them down. but this is not really needed at this point. next, we sew the pieces together. therefore i put two squares next to one another and fold the two triangles together, like this. i pin them together. i sew along this line. i repeat this step for all squares. now i can sew the paired squares. for this, i fold them open so that they look like little houses. now i can sew the triangles together. now it looks like this and i can put two sewn-together squares next to one another and pin them together.
i repeat this for all pairs. now i again sew them togethers at the triangles. when i am done, i pair them up again. i always pinned down the other three corners here, so that they would not fold open. now i can sew again. and repeat for the other piece. and now i pair up the last two pieces. watch out, that you are sewing nicely over the edges, so that there are no wholes in it. and done.
next, i sew all inner corners together by hand. when i am done, i can start working with the little colorful patches. iron these patches first. if you want, you can fold back the edges for 1 cm and iron. when you’re done, you can put these patches onto the new squares. … and roll up the edges of the squares as shown. this is how the round shapes evolve – the you can pull the edges farer at the middle. watch you corners - they should look neat. repeat this for all you colorful patches. you can choose a certain pattern here.
when you’re done sorting and pinning down, you can start sewing. i started at a corner and followed the round shapes while sewing, but you can chose the order in which you sew. just watch out that each edge will be sewed. you need to be careful in the corners. always sew close the the edges of the rolled up square edges. now i am done and you can already see the beautiful structure of the cushion. next, i will use colorful yarn and sew diagonal lines as decoration. i use two colors - on for every other line. so, i start with a pink yarn and sew diagonally over the cushion. i leave one line blank and sew the next line parallel to the first.
once i am done, i change to a blue yarn and do the blanks. now i have to take care of the back of the cushion. this means i am again taking the white fabric that i have left from the front. i could either measure the front or simply use it as a pattern. make sure to not include the selvage into the pattern piece. i can now use my brand new trick-marker, yay! it will vanish after a while. finally i have one, after one year of sewing. i simply draw once around my cushion. i do not need extra seam allowance. now it depends on what you want to do. you could leave it like this and sew on a zipper.
i want to do an envelope closure. i will need a ruler for this. since i want the pieces on the back to be overlapping a bit, i will have to add another 15 cm to one side. but, you always have to keep in mind how much you need for your hems. now i am drawing a line 25 cm from the bottom edge and can cut out two pieces. i will now hem the one of the long edges of each piece. for this i am first ironing the edges, while folding them inwards twice. since the iron is hot now, i can also iron the top part of the cushion now. it is best to do this form the left side. and then once from the front. now i can hem the two new pieces. i will place these pieces on the top as shown.
the only thing left to do is to sew once around the cushion. i am using a 1 cm seam allowance. now i am cutting back the corners. you should now use a zickzack stitch for the edges. now i can turn the cushion to the right side through the envelope closure. i will quickly iron the whole thing again and trim off yarn rests. now i can fill the cushion and who you how beautiful it looks. wow, this is how it looks. i like it so much! it is totally unique – it is handmade. i have learned a lot while sewing it. please write in the comments how you liked it and whether you had any problems.
or let me know whether you even dared to do it. i will put the link to the magazine in the info box. there is a technique part in the back of the magazine which is pretty helpful. they explain pretty well for beginners. i hope you have lots of fun fun when you are sewing this project and don’t hurt yourselves! i would be really happy to see pictures of your projects on my facebook side or instagram. please subscribe to my channel and like me on facebook and instagram. thanks for watching - see you soon!
